Roaming without Roam Sweet Roam

We live in Vancouver, Canada and  will be travelling to Europe.  With my daughter’s phone (with a virgin plan) she would only need to use it in an emergency, or if  lost  or separated from us somehow.

If we make no changes to her plan/ purchase no roaming,  will  her phone automatically work to access data or to make an sms phone call  while in european countries?  (I know price would be very high. Just wondering if it is even possible in an emergency)

Hi there, @Kay1231. Thanks for your post.

This is in principle possible, yes. You would need to make sure of two things for roaming to be used in the way you describe.

  1. Roam Sweet Roam needs to be removed as a plan add-on
  2. Roaming cannot be restricted in any way

You can confirm that you have the right circumstances in place for this by checking your plan details in My AccountOpens in a new tab or window ; if you don't see Roam Sweet Roam in your add-ons, but don't see a roaming restriction, roaming will be billed as pay per use like you describe.

If you do have Roam Sweet Roam attached, check out our thread on Unsubscribing from Roam Sweet RoamOpens in a new tab or window - from there, you'll be good to go.

If you have a roaming restriction in place, you'll need to Contact UsOpens in a new tab or window to have it removed.

Let us know if you have any further questions. 🙂

Do I want to shut off roaming or use airplane mode when in Egypt?

If I am outside of Canada WITHOUT a roamsweetroam plan, will I still RECEIVE text messages from Canada ?
