This normally happens when someone is located or traveling close to a Canada-USA boarder as your device may connect to a roaming tower, especially if you're close to a body of water.☺

Why am I receiving Roam messages when I am areas I am usually, and not any closer to the boarder!?! Raley Alberta is not in the US!

I’m in Canada the country I live in, close to the border with the USA. It got a message saying welcome to the USA from virgin. I just want to make sure I’m not racking up roaming charges when I haven’t even left Canada.

I notice a lot of people asking about this on this forum - have you found out whether you have been charged for roaming? I too had this happen and can't find an answer.

I received an email about roaming in the United States but I am located in Canada. Will I be charged for this?

Title says it all. I've moved to Niagara Falls, Ontario. I got the classic text message notifying me of roaming status on two separate days last billing cycle. My phone is never allowed to use mobile data roaming, and I did not send texts or make calls while my phone indicated it was roaming. My bill now is charging me $26 extra for 2 days of roaming in the USA. Everything I've read says that I am not responsible for received texts (and I know I only get charged when I actually send things because of a trip to Florida a year ago). The customer service helpline no longer exists, I schedule a callback and just get a voicemail without the phone ringing telling me I've missed the call on repeat. How do I dispute this? How do I cancel my service if this type of thing continues?

I had the same thing happen to me re roaming charges. I called the Virgin customer service line and spoke with customer service, they gave me a refund for the 1 day (I was in Canada and never in USA when the charges arose). They then set my cell phone up to block the roaming so my phone only works in Canada now. Also, I have to call if I go on vacation to activate it a day before to use the roaming and when I return deactivate it.

I just got off the phone with agent. Same story. Took ferry from Tswassen to Victoria (VanIsle). Apparently phone connected to a tower in Washington at some point. I didn’t place or receive any calls, but I was probably doing some web browsing to pass the time. No idea I was on US tower. But got charged. They agreed to remove the charge THIS ONE TIME and offered to remove the roaming package from my phone. Then I’d have to add it back if travel to US and take it off when I get back, or accept that I have to pay charges if the phone randomly connects to US tower again. Doesn’t seem this should be my responsibility. I WAS NOT IN US.

My husband and I have a contract which includes roam sweet roam. We live in Victoria, BC near the beach. On the other side of the Juan de Fuca Strait is Washington State, some 15+ miles away. When we were at the beach just now my husband’s roam sweet roam kicked in and it seems he is now going to be charged for a service he was certainly not using. Please help.
