Vincent 5GHz channels

Hello, I recently signed up and got the Vincent modem. I have a question regarding the 5GHz radios.

Why is the 5GHz Radio 2 upper channels selection trimmed?

In my case the 100 to 144 channels would be the preferred choice for 5GHZ Radio 2 without interference but I can only choose 149 and higher.

Why did you  choose to block the choice from 100 to 144 channels and how can they be enabled on the router?

I can see two neighbors with BELLxxx routers that are using the 100 to 114 channels.

Thank you

The channels from 100 to 144 are allowed in Canada with DPS (https://semfionetworks.com/blog/5ghz-band-channel-availability-in-canada/)

Hey there @dperez

Welcome to the Community and great question.

The modem is a ‘Tri band’ design to provide the maximum WIFI throughput (i.e. has 3 independent radios).

As per the graphic in your post, the channels 52 to 144 are ‘special’ channels used by weather radar or other special services.  Dynamic Frequency Selection (DFS) channel regulations stipulate that we can only use these channels if not in use and we must jump out of them if we detect interference or other system trying to use them.

Thus we cannot ‘fix’ a WIFI router on these channels.  The modem will apply the regulation algorithms and determine if they can be used or not if their WIFI setting are left on Auto.

Also special licensing is required to use these channels,  that is why we do not see them in use by most WIFI routers.

Let the community know if you have more questions.

Hello I am talking about the 5ghz 100 to 144 channels. I don't know why you mentioned 44 to 52.

As you can see the Bell version of the router can use the channels mentioned by me, it evens let them be selected manually as you can see in the image bellow.

Why has Virgin chose to ban those channels and Bell not? Can you enable those channels on my Vincent modem?

Hello, I am still not satisfied with you answer. You blocked the channels 100 to 144. The Bell version does not blocks the same range.

The channel can be used in Canada respecting the DFS. The modem hardware is capable as the Bell version is capable.

The following statement is not true as the modem is specifically configured to block '108,112,116,140,144' channels in it's settings (Device/Services/BellNetworkCfg/Blacklisted5GHzChannels)

"The modem will apply the regulation algorithms and determine if they can be used or not if their WIFI setting are left on Auto."

Please escalate my issue if needed as I want to use the 100 to 144 channels but they are blocked in the Vincent modem.
