Porting Number from Rogers to Virgin while in a contract, will it trigger my buyout?

Hi there I am currently a virgin member as well as a Rogers member I am looking to port my number from Rogers to my existing number on Virgin to take over the line. If I am to do this will it trigger my virgin buyout? I am still in contract. Thank you

Hey there @Kianaalex24

Welcome to the community and great question.

You can rest easy and transfer your number without worry of your Virgin Plus agreement being affected or terminated.

You can find useful information on VirginPlus.ca at Switch To Virgin PlusOpens in a new tab or window

Hi Last I called, the agent told me port-in will trigger cancellation of contract. Can you double confirm this info?

I was able to port in without triggering a buyout in contract. So, yeah @VirginPlusAntgio was right. I would now like to know whether this is true for out of province numbers as well. Say the original number is from ON and porting in number from BC?

That's a good question @rafee

The act of porting a phone number to replace one of your pre-existing active phone numbers on your account would be treated the same as a normal phone number change and it will not break your Virgin Plus agreement.

One important detail to keep in mind is that rate plan components and pricing can change from one province to the other, which means you would have to change your BC rate plan to an ON rate plan in order for the port to be successful.

Let me know if you have more questions.

I have a Rogers home phone landline and want to make it my new Virgin Mobile number. Is this possible?

Does that same argument applies, if instead of porting in, you are changing numbers? Say change province from BC to ON?

Great thinking @rafee and yes, the same argument is applicable to a regular number change if you're looking to change provinces. However, if you would request a number change for the same province (BC to BC) then you wouldn't have to change your plan.
