Is this email a scam or real?

Hi, I have received an email purporting to be from Virgin Plus. It was sent from vp@info.vpc.ca.
The message is:

Dear XXXX,
We’re in the process of replacing our aging network in your neighbourhood.
Over time, Members on our older network will need to transfer their residential services to our newer network.
Please note, should you choose not to transfer your residential services to our newer network and encounter service issues at a later date, the repair will require you to transfer your services to our newer network.
If you'd like to transfer your services to our newer network, you can call us at 1-888-999-2321. Our professional technician will handle the required work outside and inside your home.
Thanks, Virgin Plus

I feel uneasy about calling this number and letting some unknown person into my home to supposedly upgrade my home internet.

Is this a scam or real?

Thank you.

Hi there, @DavidH. Welcome to the Virgin Plus Community.

Your concern is totally understandable; there can be a lot of bad actors out there. In this case, this is very likely to be a legitimate email. Copper network infrastructure is being slowly decommissioned from area to area, and it sounds like your neighborhood is next in line to upgrade to fibre.

For what it's worth, that is also the standard number to reach Virgin Plus customer service when not dialing *611. 🙂

Let us know if you have any further concerns, and we'll do our best to help.

It's legit. I got a letter in the mail today (June 10, 2024) from Virgin with the same info.  Bell went through various neighbourhoods in Toronto installing fibre optic cabling, so that's what this is about.  They are not providing much detail other than it'll be "better service" as they're transitioning from copper wiring.
