I have been experiencing significant delays in the receipt of text messages between the two phones on this account recently.
Here's a list:
Fri, Nov 5: Sent 10:30 AM - Received 5:02 PM
Sat, Nov 6: Sent 4:03 PM - Received 5:35 PM
Tue, Nov 9: Sent 4:28 PM - Received 7:36 PM
These messages were all sent in the west end of Ottawa, Canada, and the phones were located physically fairly close together.
There were a couple of messages sent on Monday, Nov 8 that went through without delay, and in that case both phones were located in Perth, Ont, Canada.
Does anyone else have the same issue?
These delays make SMS pretty useless.

I believe I have resolved the issue. It seems to be related to the new "chat" feature (encrypted messaging) in the Google Messages app. My wife recently got a new phone and the chat feature was enabled by default, while on my phone it was not enabled in the settings, but somehow it was anyway. Once I updated the Messages app on both phones and was able to turn off the chat feature on both phones, the problem went away. I will follow up in the Google Play store.

Hey @BramBlenk,
Thanks for your post.
This is definitely not normal behavior for our SMS's to have such a delay and in many cases it could be due to a higher than normal mobile traffic in the area.
To look into it further the Community will need more details;
- Are the delays happening with all of your contacts or just a selected few?
- Are both mobiles with Virgin Plus?
- Have you tried restarting your device?
Check out Troubleshooting text, picture and video messages

Keep us posted and let us know if the issue is resolved.

I haven't received any texts since Oct 29 (last Sunday). This happened the previous week as well and a gaggle of texts arrived late on the 29th.

Hi there, @ren lucas. Welcome to the Virgin Plus Community, and thanks for your post.
When you're receiving these messages and have to enable and disable your mobile data, are they sending you pictures and/or videos? While we understand it may feel inconvenient, a mobile data connection is needed when receiving pictures and videos - these are called MMS messages, as opposed to normal SMS messages.
If this is happening with normal SMS messages as well, are you using a stock SMS app like Google Messages or iMessage, or a third party app like Telegram or WhatsApp? In the case of the latter, you may be sending messages not as SMS via our network, but instead as instant messages via the internet and their servers. Again, this would require a mobile data connection to make use of if you were not actively connected to an internet connection.
Looking forward to hearing back from you.
