Will a person using a Portuguese number be charged long distance charges if I am using the Global 365 day travel pass on my Canadian number?

I will be travelling to the Dominican Republic and would like to purchase the International 14 day pass. I just want to confirm that the pass includes unlimited calls to and from Canada ? Without using my current data?  I will  have wifi and the place I will be staying but am more concerned with calls as I have someone staying with my elderly mother and need to able to receive calls/texts when not on wifi. I often have my phone on airplane mode and just use wifi when travelling internationally. Thanks in advance
