Hey Virgin Plus Members!

Looking to understand and optimize your home Wi-Fi for a better gaming, streaming or work from home experience?

Here are a few things to consider within your home:

Modem location

Wi-Fi connection is strongest the closer you are to your modem.

Keep in mind Wi-Fi radio waves are affected by:

  • Distance from the modem.
  • Obstructions such as walls, floors, furniture, etc.
  • Interference from other electronics like small appliances, microwaves, sound systems, baby monitors etc.

Try boosting your Wi-Fi signal and reach by:

  • Locating your modem where your household uses Wi-Fi the most.
  • Removing or limiting obstructions from around your modem as much as you can.
  • Adding a Wi-Fi mesh system to extend the range of your Wi-Fi signal within your home.

Number of devices connected

Your Wi-Fi network is shared among all devices in your home. The more devices connected to your Wi-Fi network, the bigger the demand on your network and the greater effect this has on speeds to your devices. You may have more devices connected to your Wi-Fi network than your Internet package can support. A higher-speed Internet package may be required to deliver the best Wi-Fi experience.

Remember that devices may still use your Wi-Fi even when you’re not using them, so disconnecting them from your Wi-Fi when not in use can make for a better connection on your in use devices.
