steve is for dsl. You will probably need an dsl modem for using 100% your own router or router who is able to deal with dsl.

Using cmd on PC windows, type ipconfig and take a look to default gateway ip, it should be your router.

You can use your own router without the virgin's one. You only need to buy a media converter. I'm using it with my asus.I ask my credentials on chat.
