Temporary Phone Number when texting

When I send out a text to somebody who doesn't have my new number yet, it gives them a completely different number, so I cannot receive their texts, but they can recieve mine. I have had to text them my actual number, so they could text me on that, which honestly shouldn't have to be a thing. I'm wondering what's up with that?

I recently switched to virgin from a different provider and wanted to transfer my old number to my new phone. I was given a temporary number until my number was transferred, now I'm having the issue of it flopping between both numbers when I text someone. It's getting extremely irritating, I run a business with several contacts and confused people who receive an important business related messages from me yet have no idea its me due to this reoccurring problem. I need this fixed asap

Help needed- Hello there, I have the similar issue-

I switched to Virgin Plus and everything is ok, but, when I send text messages, it appears as a different 437 number ,not my registered number,  how can I fix this please?

Hello, same issue here. I have a Pixel 8 Pro and the Google RCS chat uses the number that is on the SIM card, which is my temp number. Please let me know how this can be changed to my actual number.

I recently ported a number over from Bell however the temporary number keeps showing up when I text my wife, the proper number shows up when I call her. Can I get this private message as well so I can fix the issue.

I managed to get this resolved. My issue was related to Google RCS, not SMS. In case anyone else is having this issue with Google RCS, here's the procedure I followed to fix this:

1. Settings > Google > Manage your Google Account > Personal Info
2. Under Contact Info, select Phone
3. Remove and re-added my phone number
4. Toggled auto-verification on my device
5. Went into into Messages > Messages Settings > RCS chats
6. Set Turn on RCS chats to disabled and then and re-enabled it

After doing this, the RCS chats settings show

Status: Connected

RCS chats are available for <my ported #>

And sending an RCS message to someone else shows the proper, ported number.
