Sending/receiving Photos/Videos via Text

Hi! My Virgin Mobile plan states that I have unlimited texts, as well as photo and video messaging. My current plan does not have data, but the plan detail doesn't indicate that it is needed to send a picture over text. I'd like to be able to send and receive pictures/videos over text. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

Hey there @tanyabmatthews,

Welcome to the community and thanks for your post.

Our plans only include unlimited Text & Picture Messaging. To be able to send a picture message you will need to turn mobile data on in your phone and ensure no Data Blocks are present on your account. Sent and/or received Video Messages would be considered a regular download/upload and consume data.

You can find details from below via our Plans sectionOpens in a new tab or window > + More info:

  • Unlimited Text & Picture Messaging is only valid when the message is sent from Canada. Text messages sent within the U.S. or internationally, premium text messages, text alerts, messages sent with an instant messaging application and dial-up messages are not included in any plan and cost extra.
  • Unlimited Picture Messaging is valid when sent and received from Canada.
  • Picture messaging will only work if you have turned on data on your phone.

"Unlimited Text & Picture Messaging. To be able to send a picture message you will need to turn mobile data on in your phone and ensure no Data Blocks are present on your account."

Wouldn't that means it uses data? Why should I turn it on when  I don't have a data plan but picture messaging is said to be unlimited with my plan. I believe that is misleading. I turn on my data and get an MMS picture I get charged extra

I can understand your train of thought; however, picture and video messages - as they are a multi-media messages are sent via the data protocol, thus allowing HD/4K picture and video. We have to keep in mind that data is utilised by many functionalities, in this specific case for MMS. As data is active and utilised by the phone, a data plan is recommended for all smartphone users.

Really? I turned on my data to see if it would work. And although I didn't recieve any MMS messages as I got nervous and turned it off within 2 minutes ...I used 0 mb but was still charged 13.00$ just for turning it on! Please see the attached photo for proof.

Thanks for that!

When turning your mobile data on, data usage becomes available for all functionalities and apps, which means that the usage charges were caused by the device and/or apps and not caused by an MMS as previously advised above.

Get notification that I have a "Push Message" and the text of the notification says you have an MMS message which seems to say get picture but cannot get it. Any Ideas?

Hi,

I change a new phone, but since I change the new phone, I can not received picture text, or voicemail message in text. Is any setting I have to change to receive it?

Thank you.

  • Unltd Picture & Video Messaging  is what I have so why can I not get pictures in my test when using wifi? Moblie data has to be on to get them.
  •

So if I send Photos/Videos via Text from Canada to US can I use my internet WiFi instead of data and am I charged extra fees? or can I only use my data and if so does that mean I am not charged extra fees?

So with you on this! I haven't had to... nor does everyone I say ask have to... with any service provider but Virgin turn on data for gifs & pix while connected to wifi.

I was never charged with other providers... I, too, tried to turn data on/off quick & still had a killer bill despite phone tracking saying I was below.

Since I switched to Virgin plus from Fido, I couldnt download images from Messages.

Kindly help here.
