Does Virgin have call blocker like telus where someone must dial a number before it connect?

Telus have a feature that the caller must press a key before the caller is connected.  Does Virgin have something like this or anyone know of an app that offer something like this?

Hey there,

Virgin Plus does not offer this service. Virgin Plus employs Universal Network-Level Call BlockingOpens in a new tab or window and STIR/SHAKENOpens in a new tab or window caller authentication technology.

For iPhone users, there are downloadable apps available in the App Store that provide protection against select nuisance calls.

Hi, I'm looking for a way to blocks robo/scam-calls since I'm recently getting a lot of these calls. I've heard that Telus has a free service called "Call control". How about Virgin Plus?

Thanks

My partner and I are both with Virgin under separate accounts and are considering switching because of the lack of this one feature. We get spam/scam/robot calls almost every morning. It's ridiculous at this point.

My friends and colleagues are with Koodo and Telus where this is not an issue due to the Call Control feature.

Saw a different post from a year ago where a person asked if Virgin had this feature. A rep from Virgin then directed that person to an unrelated security blog post about how to not get scammed. The Virgin rep called them 'alternatives'.

We don't need info on how not to get scammed over the phone. We need the Call Control feature so that we don't have to deal with it in the first place.

When can we expect this? It is almost 2023 now.

The one condition I had with switching from Koodo to Telus which I emphasized repeatedly was that it must have call control for me to switch. After switching, it appears there is no call control option. I feel like I am unfairly locked into a contract now due to the store that sold me the phone. Is this on the horizon or is there a 3rd party app that can achieve this?

For those who do not know, Call Control - as they call it on Telus/Koodo is a free feature that makes users press a key to transfer through. It successfully blocks all robo calls and is a complete game changer if you have a targeted phone number like me.

I really wish Virgin would implement something like what Telus has. I receive at least 8 robocalls a day.

I am also impressed with the simplicity of the Telus call control feature. It is incomprehensible that Virgin hasn't already set up a similar system. Come on Virgin, listen to and help your customers!

Your STIR/SHAKEN page says:

  • A compatible device:
    • LG Velvet 5G
    • Samsung smartphones with Android OS 11

So, what's the solution for iOS devices? I'm on iPhone and I've been getting quite a lot of robocalls since I moved to Virgin. A Telus style "Call Control" would really be helpful.

If Virgin had a proper "Call Control", I would not have to deal with How to keep yourself safe from fraud , because I would not get those calls in the first place.

Hi Virgin,

I have called other numbers that have a security feature that makes you press the requested number to leave a voicemail. This stops auto-diallers and spammers/scammers from leaving voicemail on an already limited voicemail account. Can you please create a feature like this? Or if you already have this option can you direct me as to how to set this up?

I get about 10 calls a day from bots, random numbers that are all over Canada and the US.  I never pick them up by it's very annoying to see that many calls come in, I add them to my phone block list but it doesn't matter because they use a new number every day.
Telus offers a feature called Call Control, where if someone calling your phone will hear a message that says basically "press 1 to connect the call", meaning that a real person will need to hear this message and press the requested number to complete the call to your phone, and then your phone would ring.  This will resolve tons of the bot calls I receive.  I understand Virgin offers STIR/SHAKEN, but that doesn't help when the spammers just change their numbers constantly.
Please add Call Control Virgin!!!

Virgin will lose a lot of customers if they don’t start offering this service.STIR/SHAKEN is useless.

Agree. I was going to move my family over to Virgin but now that I see this feature is not offered here, I will stick with Telus for them. This is ridiculous that such a simple feature is not available in 2024! Had I known this, I would not have switched either. Now I feel locked in to a contract of robocalls and spam for the next two years. Very frustrated.

This needs to be fixed.  I am getting more robo calls every day.  If this keeps up, we may need to switch phone plans.

We want call control! Give us call control!

I ended up here after noticing my brother’s call control. And now I see Virgin doesn’t have it, boo… shame!

Feedback for Virgin mobile: I’m phoning around to see if any other companies with call control will match my current agreement. I need a new iPhone too so if I can get a deal that works with someone that has this feature, I will be making the switch.
