Moving to the UK - What are my options with my plan?

I have just moved to the UK from Ontario about a month or so ago and will be here for at least the next two years. I'm at a bit of a loss as to what my options are with my phone plan as my research and chatting with Virgin support has not given me much. I have a new number and plan here in the UK and am not using my virgin plan at all but still have 1.5 years left in my contract so paying off the balance is a bit too expensive right now being in the midst of an international move. Does anyone know what some of my options may be, if any, to not be paying my full monthly bill for a service I am not using while abroad? I've a feeling there isn't much I can do than just keep paying monthly until paying off my contract balance feels more manageable.
