When I visit my account page I am offered a new plan that offers me more for less. What would happen to my pre-existing plan if I were to switch to this plan? Would it cancel it and use the new one, or would it only start after my contract runs out?

Welcome to the Community and thanks for your post.
When a rate plan change occurs, your old plan would be removed and changed for the new selection you've made. If you select a rate plan that is not compatible with your agreement, you will be advised and will need to agree with the buyout of the agreement before you can save and submit your rate plan change request.
