Hey there @nikitalynn8,
Welcome to the Community and great question.
That would all depend on the type of account that you have and in many cases an Early Hardware Upgrade is an option to get a new device.

I want to go about paying off my device WITHOUT cancelling my contract and incurring early exit charges because I am wanting to switch phones.
I was told on the phone by a supervisor that if I pay off my current device and do not cancel my contract they will be able to change the IMEI on the plan. Although chat agents don't seem to support that, need to find out the truth because I am so unsatisfied with the service I have received over the past two days.
