Has Virgin discontinued the Travel Pass?

There are a few other threads regarding this already but I would like to ask Virgin if you can consider bringing back travel pass and what information was used to make the decision to discontinue this? Based on other threads, you have a high number of customers, who were blindsided by the decision to discontinue travel passes and this was clearly an appealing option to many travelers. Framing roam sweet roam as a more attractive/better travel option is hard to believe and it seems like the decision was driven by a desire to increase profit margins by limiting (removing) options to one which will generate more revenue because most people do use their data on most days. Any traveler who might have used 2 GB of data during a month, using their phone for short periods of time each day and paying $80 is now paying $480 for the same amount of usage as you've decided to charge customers based on the number of days data is used vs. based on the actual amount of data they need to use. This is not a solution that creates value for your customers and it signals an unfortunate shift that emphasizes a desire to improve firm margins rather than what is best for your customers.

Not good enough, Virgin.   We have been long time customers, and the 30 day travel pass (which used to be $40 and went up to $60) was the main feature that we enjoyed.   We are snowbirds and used it several times a year.   We are now looking for a new provider.

This is absolutely wrong. How many members actually prefer roam sweet roam. Virgin please stop putting this on members or at least give your customers the options

I am very disappointed with virgin too. Getting rid of the pass is just one way for them to make more money. The insult is when they say customers were confused. They still had roam sweet roam and the pass so customers could always choose their preference

I am also a virgin customer for over 20 years and very disappointed with this switch. Then customer service asked me to just buy a SIM card from another provider while in the states to avoid the expense. In 20 years this is the first time I’ve experienced such a horrible service.
The sad part is their response to the swith

Virgin this is definitely not a solution. As a customer for over 20years, I’m absolutely disappointed. Roam sweet roam has always been there so we had the option to choose either or.
virgin is definitely going to loose a loyal customer who’s has recommended them and added over 15 customers.

very very disappointed customer.

Why did Virgin stop the roaming packages? I guess they want me to change providers. I am traveling and my partner who is with another cell company has great roaming features and packages. I have to buy a sim card and deal with another cell number. And, by the way, $13 a day for roaming fees is NOT reasonable.

I have used your travel pass for years and now without warning you have eliminated the plan with a lame reason.   This is a typical corporate money grab!!!!!! you should be ashamed with the rationale posted.   I have planned a international trip and will not be using your service.  Instead of $60 for the 30 days it would have costed me $480, are you guys crazy, give your heads a shake!!!!!  I have many friends, family and others who have used your service and I will be advising all of them about this disgraceful service!!!!!!

I have used the travel pass for years as well and im very disappointed that it has been discontinued .Most companies advise there customers well in advance of changes of this magnitude, I now have to option of buying out my contract   so I can move to a cell service provider with a reasonable roaming plan . In my opinion this is very inconsiderate of Virgin Mobile

This is an unbelievable response   $13/day  a very expensive roaming plan . That is $403./month. Most snowbirds spend 4 months in the US . the total cost for 4 months would be $1612. I dont understand how virgin Mobile thinks that this would be a reasonable cost for roaming charges. The plans were discontinued with out notice   how can you do that ????

Hi everyone,

We wanted to take a minute and remind everyone that it is important to read the entirety of the feature description including the FAQ's and Good to Know sections to ensure that you familiarize yourselves with all of the key points of the feature.

You can find details such as ;

  • You will only be charged for a maximum of 20 days per line in the U.S. (including Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands) and a maximum of 20 days per line in other international destinations within the same billing period. Additional charges for data top-ups still apply.
  • Certain types of usage will not result in the daily charge, including: making a call to Virgin Plus Care, receiving texts, or using non-chargeable data.
  • Speed and signal strength may vary due to roaming partner’s network technology, traffic, topography, environmental conditions and other factors.

Let the Community know if you have more questions.

Really  and that is suppose to be solution to for snowbirds who require roaming service for 5 months . , It is hard to understand How Virgin Mobile can be so out of touch with the needs of there customers.

The moderators response that you would only be charged a max of 20 days per cycle still shows the obvious disconnect between Virgin and their customers. So only being charged $260 a month is suppose to be better than the $60 plan. What nonsense. Much cheaper for us just to pick up a US phone and plan.

So, if I am traveling from Sept 16 to Oct 15 (30 days) and my billing period is Sept 2 to  Oct 2 and Oct 2 to Nov 2, how many days will I be billed for? 30 right? This is rubbish. And, what qualifies as "non-chargeable data"?

Your Roam sweet roam is not preferred by your members. This is just a cash grab so you can force people to pay 16$ a day instead of 80$/month. That is 480$ for 30 days instead of 80$ which means you can make 6 times more money so you can pay your CEO's multi million dollar salaries. This is outrageous considering canadiens already pay so much more compared to other countries. In Italy you can get 180GB of data for less than 15$. We need more competition. I am very disappointed and will be looking for another provider. You guys are crooks.
