I have a new from the Apple Store Series 10 Apple Watch and I can’t activate cellular on it. I’ve set up the account with Virgin, but the watch isn’t connecting. I’ve almost given up on Virgin tech support (been waiting since last Sunday for a call).

I’ve restarted the watch and the phone multiple times, force restarted, unpaired, updated carrier settings, updated operating systems, and even had Virgin delete the line and start again.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Has anyone else had this issue? I’ve only got 7 more days that I can still return the watch so I need to get it sorted soon!

Hoping there are some smart people out there!

Hi there, @Mike1. Welcome to the Community.

Did you get this Apple Watch through a third party seller? If so, could you confirm the series and model number of the Apple Watch?

Certain models of Apple Watches are not supported on Canadian LTE bands and thus would not be able to activate with Virgin Plus. If you're unsure, you can check out Apple's support page on Compatible Models & Supported Carriers to confirm.

Let us know if you were still in need of assistance.

Hi Kris,

Thanks for responding.

Yes, it was purchased through a third party seller. The watch is a series 6 and model number is A2294, which is a North America model.

Thanks,

Michael

Thank you for the details, @Mike1.

When trying to self-activate your Apple Watch, could you confirm that you're following these steps?

Upgrade iPhone software to iOS12 (or newer).

Open the Watch app on iPhone. In most cases, the Watch app is already on the iPhone (it is a pre-installed app). If you've deleted this app, it can be redownloaded via the App Store.

Hold the watch near a compatible Virgin Plus iPhone. Wait until they see Use your iPhone to set up the Apple Watch.

Tap Set Up for Myself. This will take you through the NumberShare activation.

You can also check out our FAQ on Smartwatch NumberShare for more details.

Looking forward to hearing back from you.

They had to deactivate that line and instructed me to unpair one last time, which got me through a new setup process to pick the cellular plan myself, and finally it's working. Only wasted 6 hours of my Saturday! Neat.

Hi, I just got off the phone with a Virgin Mobile employee that has told me it is impossible to set up cellular data on my apple watch because it is a used apple watch that has been given to me and not a watch bought with Virgin. I don't seem to understand how this makes sens. So, the only way to have a watch with cellular data is to buy a watch from Virgin directly? Sounds ridiculous.

I had the same experience this past December (2024); the Virgin Mobile employee said that they were not able to activate my 3rd party apple watch SE. How come this thread was about a 3rd party apple watch that was successfully added to a Virgin Plus plan? Is having to buy the apple watch through Virgin Mobile a recent policy change?
