My cell phone always has poor connection to wifi. How do I make it better inside my house?

Wifi on my phone not working properly

I am using Vincent router and having issues connecting from my cell phone on wifi. The cell phone is showing connected to Virgin wifi, but has huge delays connecting to somethings that are also on the wifi network, Things such as Nest Thermostat, Alexa, MyQ that are also on the same wifi network. If I shut off the wifi on my phone I can connect immediatley to any of these apps. Is there a setting that is wrong?
